Looking across the lake at the magnificent snow covered mountains brings a smile to our faces. The striking blue and white landscape of chilled serenity brings so much warmth to our hearts during this gorgeous Holiday Season.
Cedar Glen Lodge is feeling the Holiday Spirit. Our Christmas tree is up and decorated, lights are strung about, and we’ve even added a few reindeer to our fleet. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and we couldn’t be more excited!
Winter offers so many fun activities in beautiful Lake Tahoe, with skiing and snowboarding topping most people’s list. With over a dozen resorts within minutes drive from Cedar Glen Lodge, you are sure to find one (or more), that’s just right for you. Here are some of our favorites, all within a short drive from Cedar Glen Lodge (mileage is from the hotel):
Diamond Peak: 9.5 miles~Perfect for families, this budget-friendly resort offers beginner-intermediate terrain with truly stunning lake views. Diamond Peak is a smaller, customer service oriented resort, and offers a Child Ski Center for 3-7 year old kids. Please inquire at our front desk to purchase their lift tickets.
Northstar at Tahoe: 7.7 miles~This resort is great for families who want a little more room. The terrain is mostly beginner-intermediate with some advanced runs. The village at Northstar is very festive during the Holidays. It offers a lot of great retail stores, restaurants, wine bar, Starbucks, and an ice skating rink surrounded with couches and fire pits. Tickets are on the pricier side of the spectrum, but very well-worth.
Mount Rose: 16.8 miles~Mount Rose is a great option for the more experienced skiers and snowboarders. It has some incredible double back diamond runs with amazing views. In addition, it has a lot great intermediate terrain as well as a bunny slope or two. This is another great budget-friendly resort.
Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows: 15 miles~Some people can only ski Squaw and it’s easy to see why. It has some of the most challenging runs in North America and its plethora of steep and deep is unmatched. After purchasing Alpine Meadows a few years back, the duo of resorts boasts more terrain on a single lift ticket than any other resort in the area. The village at Squaw Valley is huge and is home to many restaurants, retail stores and more. Prices are high and it gets very crowded, but it is a unique skiing experience. If you go here, LEAVE EARLY! Traffic gets crazy.
Tahoe XC: 5.5 miles~Downhill not your thing? No worries, Tahoe XC has your cross country skiing needs met. Just a short drive from our property, this ski area has great terrain to keep you in shape and beautiful views to keep you coming back.
But what if you don’t care to ski or snowboard, or want to avoid the big ski crowds? What if you just want to change your usual winter routine? Well, we’ve got you covered! There are so many activities for every age and interests; here are some of our favorites:
Sleigh Rides at Sand Harbor~If you’ve had the pleasure to enjoy Sand Harbor for summertime beach fun or for one of the memorable Shakespeare productions, wait till you see it in the winter from a horse-drawn sleigh! The views are breathtaking and the experience is something you and your family will cherish forever. For over 40 years the Borges family and their Belgian Draft Horses have been dazzling visitors with their unique equestrian outings. So dress warm, bring a camera, and prepare to see Lake Tahoe like you never have before! For more information or to book a reservation call (775)588-2953, or visit their website.
Sledding~Sledding is a great activity for anyone in the family. You can give yourself the thrill of a lifetime or just scoot the hill down with the little ones, it’s all up to you. Our neighborhood park has a fun little hill with beautiful views and at less than a mile away it makes for an easy commute. If you desire more of a thrill, Northstar at Tahoe offers tubing fun for the whole family. Since they have snow-making capabilities they will be sure to offer tubing all winter.
