In 2014, we were excited to learn TripAdvisor named Cedar Glen Lodge among the Ten Highest Rated Green Hotels in the USA! Cedar Glen Lodge still maintains a Platinum Green Leader status! After receiving this award, we continued to implement additional environmentally friendly practices.
Our green initiatives include a Tesla and Universal charging station. Many of our guests come from the Bay Area. They have the ability to recharge for the 3 hour ride home right at our hotel! We changed our bathroom amenities from disposable plastic bottles to refillable bottles. This change alone represented a 98% avoidance of plastic waste!
Our Ongoing Eco-Friendly Initiatives
The least expensive measure with the biggest impact has proven to be the real winner! In each room, we placed a little pine cone with a sign. Tahoe residents are familiar with the signs “Drink Tahoe Tap” because we know our water is better than bottled water! Our guests enjoy knowing that when they drink from the tap, they have access to the best and freshest water available. The result is that our guests have no need to bring plastic bottled water!
But we didn’t just stop there. We exchanged our plastic cutlery for real silverware. Like many in the hospitality industry, we got rid of plastic straws. Drinking straws are unnecessary and so damaging to the environment. We know the impact that the hospitality industry places on the natural environment and we are proud to be leading the change toward eco-friendly lodging.
